Winter in Perth might be cool, but the events and activities heating up the city this season are nothing short of magical. From dazzling light trails to hands-on creative workshops, glowing mini golf, and cheese-fuelled feasts, there’s something for every mood and moment. So grab your cosiest jacket, round up your crew, and explore the best things to do this winter in Perth.
Lightscape 2025 at Kings Park

Back by popular demand, Lightscape has transformed Kings Park into a glowing wonderland with over 20 awe-inspiring installations across a 2km illuminated trail. This year’s theme, Pollinators, includes everything from giant glowing dragonflies and a dreamy flower tunnel to interactive projections and the much-loved Winter Cathedral with 100,000 twinkling lights.
Lightscape is lighting up Kings Park now through to 27 July 2025, and it’s one of the most magical things you can do this winter in Perth. You can grab your tickets via the Lightscape website and if you’re after the best value (and fewer crowds), midweek sessions are the way to go!
Raclette Melt at The Cheese Shop

Each month over winter in Perth, cheese lovers flock to The Cheese Shop at Kalamunda in the Hills for one delicious reason – their famed Raclette Melt. Expect to queue (sometimes for hours!) as crowds gather for a taste of this indulgent winter tradition.
Usually running from 10am to 2pm (or until sold out), molten Raclette cheese is scraped straight from the wheel onto a warm baguette, then topped with cornichon pickles and Spanish jamon. It’s rich, oozy, and totally worth the wait.
And if you miss the melt, the shop itself is always worth a visit for free tastings and a world-class selection of cheeses from across the globe. Find the date for the next Raclette Melt at The Cheese Shop on social media.
Get out in nature and chase waterfalls

Winter is the perfect time to go waterfall chasing in Perth! Whether you’re up for a hike or just want to relax with a picnic and a view, there are plenty of gorgeous waterfalls flowing all around the metro area! Our faves are Lesmurdie Falls in the Perth Hills and Kitty’s Gorge in Serpentine National Park with its lovely 3.5km Trail. Check out our Guide to Perth’s Best Waterfalls and plan a fun day out with the fam.
Coffee & Clay at House of Hobby

If you’re craving a cosy winter reset, House of Hobby’s Coffee & Clay Mindful Workshop might be just what you need. Set inside their beautiful West Perth studio, this relaxed, beginner-friendly class is all about slowing down, sipping a warm drink, and getting delightfully messy with clay. You’ll learn simple hand-building techniques to create your own ceramic pieces – trinket dishes, mugs or mini vases, while enjoying a locally brewed cuppa and a delicious morning tea.
It’s the perfect way to spend a rainy weekend during winter in Perth with a friend, treat yourself to some mindful solo time, or try something new as a creative date. And if you’re feeling inspired, House of Hobby also runs loads of other hands-on workshops like watercolour painting, candle making, sourdough baking, calligraphy and more! There’s something for every kind of crafty soul.
Indoor Fun at Hi Voltage Entertainment

If you’re looking to burn off some energy this winter, rain, hail or shine, Hi Voltage Entertainment in Belmont is a total winner. Home to WA’s largest indoor electric go-kart track, it’s the perfect spot for high-speed fun that’s fume-free and weatherproof. Kids as young as seven can jump into the junior karts, while older thrill-seekers can race around the 350m track built for speed.
Upstairs, the fun keeps going with two glow-in-the-dark mini golf courses – ‘Speed’ and ‘Circus’ each one packed with colourful art, sound effects, and a few cheeky surprises. It’s the kind of place where kids, teens, parents (and even grandparents!) can all join in.
If you’re visiting during the July school holidays, keep an eye out for their Winter Pass deal, which includes a go-kart race, mini golf, head sock and hot chips for a great price. There’s even a play area for the little ones open on weekends. Whether it’s a rainy-day boredom buster or a fun family outing, Hi Voltage is high-energy indoor fun during winter in Perth that ticks all the boxes.
Take the kids to Schools Out Winter Fest

If you’re looking for a fun way to keep the kids entertained these school holidays, Schools Out Winter Fest is one of the biggest and best events happening this winter in Perth. Held indoors at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, it’s packed with all the wintery fun kids love like ice skating, snow slides, carnival rides, dodgems, bouncy castles, and even falling snow!
There’s heaps to see and do, and the value is great too – your ticket includes a skate session, multiple rides, snow slide turns, and entry for one adult, all under one roof (so no worrying about the weather). And if you’ve got older kids or teens, don’t miss the special night sessions on select weekends with DJs, glowing lights and late-night skating – it’s basically a mini winter wonderland party!
It’s on from Saturday 5th to Sunday 20th July 2025. Expect plenty of excitement, loads of sugar (hello fairy floss and popcorn), and memories that’ll last long after the school holidays are over. Just make sure to book ahead via their website – this one sells out fast!
Wheel & Wine Workshop at Not Yet Perfect

For the perfect winter date night, head to Not Yet Perfect in Applecross for their dreamy Wheel & Wine pottery class. Held inside a beautiful heritage studio at the Heathcote Cultural Precinct in Applecross, this hands-on workshop is all about learning to throw clay on the pottery wheel – no experience needed, just a willingness to give it a go!
It’s the kind of activity that feels equal parts playful and therapeutic. You’ll be guided by friendly instructors who walk you through the basics, and then it’s your turn to get your hands dirty and spin something unique – maybe not perfect, but definitely full of character. Think candlelit vibes, a grazing board to nibble on, a glass of wine in hand, and a small group of like-minded creatives all having a laugh.
Your masterpiece will be glazed and fired after the session and ready to collect in a few weeks, something tangible to remember the experience by. And if you love it (which you probably will), Not Yet Perfect also offers everything from mindfulness mornings and date nights to six-week pottery courses. It’s such a wholesome winter activity – creative, cosy, and totally different from your usual night out.
