The best Murals and Street Art around Perth!

This colourful lane in Bayswater is home to one of Perth's best murals

Street art has become a major drawcard for serious Instagrammers worldwide, and Perth is no exception. Throughout our city, you’ll discover plenty of Insta-worthy murals that are quickly becoming some of Perth’s best photo shoot locations. They are colourful and visually stunning and are just waiting to be your next backdrop.

Where are the best murals?

Whether you’re a professional photographer, avid Insta content maker, or just into snapping a fun selfie every now and again, here are a few of our favourite colourful spots that are sure to make your Instagram feed stand out!

Grand Lane, Perth CBD

Tucked between Barrack and Murray Streets in the heart of Perth, Grand Lane is far more than your average alleyway. What once was an overlooked passage is now bursting with colour thanks to a stunning new mural by internationally renowned artist Yew Chong. Depicting nostalgic scenes of old-school Perth – corner delis, grocers, and trams with playful surprises like quokkas and even Grumpy Cat hidden throughout, it’s a whimsical slice of urban art that stops you in your tracks. This is just the beginning too, with more artworks currently being installed further down the lane as part of the City of Perth’s push to reimagine laneways as creative, walkable spaces. Whether you’re after an eye-catching backdrop or just love discovering local art, Grand Lane is a must-see on your next city stroll.

Whatley Crescent, Bayswater

This incredible mural is a fantastic collaboration between the City of Bayswater, Baysie Rollers, Laneway Art Space and Graeme Miles Richards. Located in a humble little lane off Whatley Crescent next to the Australian Post in the suburb of Bayswater, this eye-catching spot is one of our top Insta-worthy murals in Perth for a colourful photo!

South Terrace, South Fremantle (East West Design)

This photo is just one tiny section of the incredible 140m fresco on the exterior of East West Design in South Freo (front and back). Painted by local legend Graeme Miles Richards, the mural features cultural designs that reflect different countries where the store’s products have been sourced, as well as local scenes like Rottnest Island. It’s an impressive masterpiece that makes a great photoshoot location – make sure to check out all the details up close!

Forest Square Carpark, Subiaco

Located on the side of a Subiaco apartment block, this stunning mural was painted by Spanish artist Okuda San Miguel aka OKUDART. Split into two works entitled ‘Kid Koala Playing God’ and ‘Kingaroo’, these artworks’ pop surrealism style and splash of colour bring vibrancy to the area.

Oxford Street, Leederville

Almost everywhere you look in Leederville you’ll find street art. One of the standouts is the Pink Haired Girl painted by Sarah McCloskey on the car park side of Bunn Mee (112 Oxford Street, Leederville). This mural’s bright blue background with the dreamy girl’s pink hair makes it one of the most colourful spots for a photo backdrop.

Guildford Road, Maylands

Not so much a mural, but still a gorgeous Insta-worthy spot for a photo with your love, the Salvos Store in Maylands on Guildford Road is super cute all painted red and covered in hearts. Pull into the car park out of shop hours and you’ll have this place all to yourself.

South Terrace, South Fremantle (Anya Brock)

We love this colourful artwork by Anya Brock Artistpainted in 2014. Located on the side of a cafe on South Terrace it’s one of Fremantle’s best murals. The Zebras have become a popular photo spot whilst enjoying a coffee or snack at Ootong & Lincoln which oozes laid-back, retro charm and an eclectic menu boasting some of Perth’s best brunch fare. This mural has led to Anya being commissioned to paint some 60 big murals in public places all around Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and even LA.
