Walking through the dazzling wonderland of Kings Park and Botanic Gardens at Lightscape 2025 during winter in Perth

Back by popular demand, Lightscape has transformed Kings Park and Botanic Garden into a glowing wonderland with over 20 awe-inspiring installations across a 2km illuminated trail. This year’s trail feels bigger, brighter and more immersive than ever, featuring three Perth premieres from leading European artists. From glowing mushroom forests and dreamy kaleidoscopic tunnels to mesmerising laser projections and giant illuminated blossoms beneath the stars, every step is magical.

Enjoy a French Winter Experience with Mulled Wine

One of the best things to do this winter in Perth is to enjoy a French Winter experience at Mistelle Bistro with mulled wine and baked camberbert.

This winter, La Terrasse at Mistelle Bistro has transformed into one of Perth’s cosiest spots to enjoy a long lunch, afternoon drink or relaxed evening meal. Partially enclosed for the season, the terrace is warmed by heaters and illuminated with twinkling lights, while French music drifts through the garden creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a neighbourhood bistro in France.

Visitors can settle in during Happy Hour from 4pm to 6pm with a glass of mulled wine alongside house-made charcuterie, fromage selections, crispy frites with béarnaise mayo or a classic steak tartare. Adding to the appeal is one of Perth’s best winter dining specials — a baked Camembert served with two glasses of mulled wine for just $35 for two people. Combining gooey melted cheese, warming spiced wine and a charming French-inspired setting, it’s the perfect way to embrace Perth’s cooler months.

Raclette Melt at The Cheese Shop

Sampling a delicious melty raclette cheese roll during winter in Perth at Kalamunda

Each month over winter in Perth, cheese lovers flock to The Cheese Shop at Kalamunda in the Hills for one delicious reason – their famed Raclette Melt. Expect to queue (sometimes for hours!) as crowds gather for a taste of this indulgent winter tradition.
Usually running from 10am to 2pm (or until sold out), molten Raclette cheese is scraped straight from the wheel onto a warm baguette, then topped with cornichon pickles and Spanish jamon. It’s rich, oozy, and totally worth the wait.

And if you miss the melt, the shop itself is always worth a visit for free tastings and a world-class selection of cheeses from across the globe. Find the date for the next Raclette Melt at The Cheese Shop on social media.

Coffee and Clay at House of Hobby

A clay making class at House of Hobby is one of the best things to do during winter in Perth

If you’re craving a cosy winter reset, House of Hobby’s Coffee & Clay Mindful Workshop might be just what you need. Set inside their beautiful West Perth studio, this relaxed, beginner-friendly class is all about slowing down, sipping a warm drink, and getting delightfully messy with clay. You’ll learn simple hand-building techniques to create your own ceramic pieces – trinket dishes, mugs or mini vases, while enjoying a locally brewed cuppa and a delicious morning tea.

It’s the perfect way to spend a rainy weekend during winter in Perth with a friend, treat yourself to some mindful solo time, or try something new as a creative date. And if you’re feeling inspired, House of Hobby also runs loads of other hands-on workshops like watercolour painting, candle making, sourdough baking, calligraphy and more! There’s something for every kind of crafty soul.
