Grape Picking in Perth – Everything You Need to Know

One of our favourite things to do during summer in Perth is heading out to the Swan Valley for grape picking. With grape prices climbing at supermarkets, picking your own straight from the vine is not only excellent value for money, but also a relaxed and family-friendly way to spend a weekend. Most vineyards encourage you to taste as you pick (within reason!), and there’s nothing quite like enjoying sweet, sun-ripened grapes that haven’t travelled further than a few metres.

If you’re looking for a seasonal activity that keeps the kids entertained, supports local growers and sends you home with seriously fresh produce, grape picking in Perth ticks all the boxes.

Where to go Grape Picking in Perth

All current grape picking locations are found in the Swan Valley, around 30 minutes from the Perth CBD. As opening days, times and fruit availability can change quickly throughout the season, we always recommend checking directly with the vineyard before visiting.

Below are some of the best grape picking spots in Perth to get you started.

Swan Valley Fresh Fruit (Baskerville)

136 Memorial Ave, Baskerville (opposite Baskerville Memorial Hall)
Open Thursday to Sunday 8.30am to 4pm

One of the newest places to pick your own grapes in the Swan Valley, Swan Valley Fresh Fruit is an easy and popular option just 30 minutes from Perth. Opening from Boxing Day in 2025, visitors can wander the vines and fill their baskets with beautifully ripe grapes, with the season expected to run through to March 2026 unless the vines are picked out earlier.

When we visited, the red grapes were already incredibly sweet and ready to go, and with the warmer weather, the green grapes were ripening fast. Entry is free, and grapes are priced between $7–$10 per kilo depending on the variety, making it excellent value for such fresh produce.

When you arrive, you’ll check in at the gazebo beside the house, where the friendly owners will point you in the direction of the sweetest bunches and explain how picking works. Scissors and boxes are provided, though you’re welcome to bring your own basket and clippers. Roadside parking is available along Memorial Avenue, but it can get busy, so be prepared for a short walk. Open Thursday to Sunday from 8.30am to 4pm, this is a fantastic option for families, school holidays, or anyone wanting grapes that taste noticeably better than supermarket ones.

Grape Picking Tips

  • Wear enclosed shoes, as it’s usually sandy and uneven around the grape vines.
  • Bring your own basket or box, along with scissors or garden shears, as equipment can run out during busy periods.
  • Always check opening hours and fruit availability before visiting, as grape picking is highly seasonal and weather dependent.
  • Some vineyards use pesticides, herbicides and fungicides for pest and disease control. If this is a concern, look for certified organic or “no spray” farms, or ask staff on arrival.
  • Pick early in the day during summer – it’s cooler, less busy, and the grapes are often firmer and fresher.
  • Bring water, sunscreen and a hat, especially if you’re visiting with kids, as many vineyards are open paddocks with limited shade.
  • Taste as you go, but pick responsibly – only harvest what you plan to buy.
  • Be gentle with the vines and only cut ripe bunches to help ensure future harvests.
  • Remember WA is plastic bag–free, so reusable bags or containers are essential.
